Anaya Banger, daughter of Sanjay Banger, has recently asked the BCCI to revisit its policy on allowing transwomen to play in women’s cricket and also spoke about her relationship with her father.
Anaya Banger Urges ICC, BCCI to Revisit Transwomen Policy After Medical Test
Anaya, who once aspired to become a cricketer like her father Sanjay Banger, had to pause that dream following her transition into a transwoman. She began her transition in 2021 and recently underwent a scientific test in London.
Sharing her medical results on Instagram, Anaya called on the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to revisit their policy on transwomen in women’s cricket.
“It began as me wanting to play again, but the more I spoke up, the more I realised that my journey is tied to so many who feel invisible in Indian sport. My personal dream and public advocacy have become the same thing now,” she tells us, adding, “Walking back onto the field, this time as Anaya, won’t just be about playing but reclaiming the right to belong, compete, and dream with dignity.”
Hopes for Acceptance in Women’s Cricket
Her post went viral, with strong support pouring in for Anaya through comments. She responded to the support, describing it as ‘underwhelming.’
“Well-known cricketers from both the men’s and women’s sides have messaged me. Some just sent a heart. Some said, ‘We see you.’ It made me emotional. Because in a sport where silence is common, even a whisper of support can feel like thunder,” adds Anaya.
Meanwhile, Anaya believes that one day, women’s cricket in India will welcome her with full dignity:
“Indian women cricketers have always shown strength, grace and resilience. I’ve seen them fight for recognition, resources, and respect. That gives me hope. I believe they understand what it means to be sidelined and underestimated. That shared experience makes me feel like there’s room for sisterhood and solidarity here.”

“I Hope One Day He’ll Stand Beside Me”
Anaya, who has started a revolution in her own right, continues to fight one personal battle — with her father. Sanjay Banger has yet to publicly acknowledge her transition, and Anaya shared her hope for reconciliation:
“My relationship with my father is complex, like many families navigating change,” Anaya says. “I hope that one day he will find a way to stand beside me,” she concluded.
