The future of the Asia Cup 2025 could be decided during the ICC Annual General Meeting (AGM), which is happening in Singapore from July 17 to 20. Officials from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) are expected to hold discussions.
The Asia Cup 2025 is scheduled in September. However, there have been doubts over the tournament's future following the terror attack in Pahalgam that left 26 dead. India launched its 'Operation Sindoor' to destroy terrorist bases in Pakistan. This led to a cross-border conflict between the two nations. However, a ceasefire was announced.
Since then, reports have suggested that the BCCI is not comfortable in taking part in the tournament. However, officially, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia denied such reports.
Will Asia Cup 2025 Happen? BCCI-PCB Dialogue Possible at ICC AGM
A Forbes report said that the ICC AGM could be where efforts are made to convince India to take part in the tournament. The report said the Asia Cup could either be moved to the UAE or even get cancelled.
The UAE has often hosted India-Pakistan games when political tensions have made travel between the two countries difficult. But if India pull out, the tournament may not happen at all.
Earlier, it was believed the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) would take a final decision during its meeting on July 24. But now, with both boards present in Singapore, the talks may begin earlier.
ACC AGM Likely to Move Out of Dhaka
The ACC AGM that was planned in Dhaka on July 24 will reportedly now be shifted to another location. Political tensions in Bangladesh have raised concerns about safety and BCCI have shown its reluctance to travel to Dhaka.
This meeting was expected to confirm details for the Asia Cup such as venue and schedule.
In the coming days, a final decision could be made on whether the Asia Cup 2025 will go ahead as planned, be moved to another country, or be called off entirely.
