Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, two of the most iconic names in Indian cricket, have already drawn the curtain on their Test and T20I careers. Yet, they are not done wearing the blue jersey just yet.
Both senior players have made it clear that they wish to continue playing ODIs with the 2027 World Cup firmly in their sights. For two men who have shaped India’s cricketing journey for over a decade and a half, the next few tours could mark the final chapters of their international careers.
With their roles now transitioning from all-format giants to ODI specialists, every upcoming assignment takes on greater emotional weight, none more so than the 2025 tour of Australia.

Cricket Australia Plans Farewell for Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli Ahead of Likely Final Tour
Cricket Australia (CA) seems aware that this might be the last time they host two of India’s biggest modern-day icons. CA CEO Todd Greenberg spoke about the possibility of giving them a fitting farewell, if this ends up being their final visit.
"This might be the last time that we get to see Virat Kohli or Rohit Sharma play in our country. And if that is the case, who knows, it might not be, but if it is, we wanna make sure we give them a great send-off and a reflection of the incredible contribution they've made to international cricket," Greenberg said as quoted to IANS.
There’s no official confirmation yet about any ceremony or tribute, but Greenberg’s words make it clear that the Australian board is seriously considering it.
Notably, India will tour Australia in October-November for three ODIs and five T20Is. While Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will not be a part of the T20Is as they have already retired from the shortest format, they will still feature in the ODI leg of the tour.
Australian Fans to Acknowledge Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli's Legacy
Over the years, both Rohit and Kohli have built a strong rapport with Australian crowds, even while being fierce competitors. From Kohli’s unforgettable knocks in the 2014-15 Test series to Rohit’s hundreds in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Brisbane, their presence on the Australian soil has been unmatched.
More than just opponents, they have become familiar faces in a cricket-loving nation that respects talent and celebrates greatness, even in opposition colours.
If this is the last we see of them there, Australian fans will surely want to acknowledge them as the greats of the game.
