Shubman Gill could find himself in trouble despite leading India to a historic win at Edgbaston on Sunday. The Indian Test captain was seen declaring the innings while wearing a black Nike vest on Saturday.
While you would be wondering what’s the issue in this, we are here to explain to you how Gill might have actually breached the BCCI sponsorship contract unknowingly.
As Adidas is the official partner kit sponsor of the Indian team, wearing a competitor brand on the field could lead to legal consequences.

Shubman Gill in Spotlight for Wearing Nike Vest: Fans Wonder If It Breaks BCCI-Adidas Agreement
Adidas signed a five-year deal with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in 2023 to become the official partner kit sponsor of the Indian cricket team. As per the agreement, all Indian players are expected to wear Adidas-branded clothing. Shubman Gill’s decision to wear a Nike vest, even briefly, could be seen as a breach of contract.
Some fans took to social media to point this out, and there are now questions over whether Gill might face a fine or warning. So far, neither the BCCI nor Adidas has made an official statement, but the matter could gain attention in the coming days.
India Create History at Edgbaston
India’s win at Edgbaston was a big moment in the series. After losing the first Test at Headingley, the visitors bounced back in style. Gill led from the front with a superb double-hundred in the first innings, followed by another century in the second. His form, along with Akash Deep’s ten wickets in the match, helped India crush England by 336 runs, their biggest away Test win in terms of runs.
The victory was India’s first-ever Test win at Edgbaston and has levelled the five-match series 1-1. It was a complete performance, dominated by both bat and ball, and has lifted the mood in the Indian camp ahead of the Lord’s Test, starting July 10.
