India added another 64 runs for the loss of one wicket, that of Shubman Gill, to extend their lead to 159 runs as the first session on Day 4 came to an end.
Early Blow for India, But Rahul and Pant Steady the Ship on Day 4
Day 4 began with India at 90/2 as KL Rahul and Shubman Gill walked out to resume the innings. Shoaib Bashir completed his over from the previous day, while Brydon Carse started his spell from the other end. He was soon rewarded with the wicket of Skipper Shubman Gill, bowled by a good-length delivery.
Carse, who maintained a disciplined line in the second innings, claimed the valuable wicket of Gill, who departed for just 8 off 16 balls without making much impact in the first over of day 4.
England struck early as Rishabh Pant joined KL Rahul at the crease. The first hour of play featured some drama, with Pant surviving a close LBW call. Meanwhile, KL Rahul held firm at the other end, bringing up his first fifty of the series. India added 28 runs for the loss of one wicket by the drinks break.

The session continued at a sensible and risk-free pace, with India avoiding risks and focusing on preserving wickets. Rishabh Pant had a few lucky escapes off outside edges, but also timed the ball well, attempting to push the scoring from his end.
Sensible stroke play continued throughout the session, with India managing 64 runs in total during the first session of play. England will be relatively satisfied with their effort, taking the early wicket of Gill helped slow things down. Their bowlers mostly hit a good length, which troubled India’s batters. Though Pant and Rahul had some lucky moments, they held the innings together and disrupted England’s momentum.
At Day 4 lunch, India had extended their lead to 159 runs with seven wickets in hand.
