Former Olympic medalist Saina Nehwal took social media by storm when she announced her divorce from fellow badminton star Parupalli Kashyap. Nehwal took to X to share the heartbreaking news with her fans and followers. The duo, who got married in 2018 after years of training and bonding at the Pullela Gopichand Academy in Hyderabad, confirmed the news on Monday, July 14, through social media. The Badminton couple's divorce adds to a growing list of athletes who have headed for separation in recent times.
Just before Nehwal, leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal also had filed for divorce with YouTuber wife Dhanashree Verma. The duo's case was accepted by the Mumbai High Court, with the latter also giving INR 4.2 crore alimony to his estranged wife. Apart from PBKS spinner, former cricketer Shikhar Dhawan also filed for divorce with partner Aesha Mukherjee. Their marriage ended in October 2023.
The couple who married in 2012 have a son named Zoravar, whose current custody is with Aesha. The Delhi court's decision of handing over the son to Dhawan's estranged wife did not go down well with a lot of people. Former Olympic medalist Mary Kom also separated from her husband in 2023.

Sania Mirza, Mohammed Shami & Hardik Pandya also end their respective marriages
Tennis star Sania Mirza also ended her troubled marriage with cricketer Shoaib Malik through 'Khulna' in January 2024. The couple have a son, named Izhaan, whose current custody is with Mirza. After the divorce, Shoaib went onto get married for the third time to Pakistani Actress Sana Javed. Pacer Mohammed Shami also got separated from his wife Hasin Jahan in 2018, amid serious allegations of domestic violence and infidelity. The divorce case still continues to move courts, with unresolved alimony matters.
All-rounder Hardik Pandya also got separated from model Natasa Stankovic in 2024. The couple announced through social media. They have a son together named Agastya, which they have agreed to co-parent.
