England batter Ollie Pope scored 44 runs off 104 balls on day 1 at Lord's and did not play the usual Bazball way. His innings was cut short after lunch as Ravindra Jadeja had him dismissed.

England scored 251 runs for four wickets on day 1 and their method of play was very different to what they normally do. Their attacking intent of play took a backseat as they played with patience and technique.

The tactic and the method they applied was very different and Pope said that the pitch required the batters to adjust to the conditions.

“This wasn't a surface where you could come out swinging. The Indian attack held their lengths and made it hard to score,” Pope said.

He further said that 250 after the first day on that kind of track was a good score and also lauded the Indian bowlers for keeping it right. Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep went wicketless on day 1. Jasprit Bumrah bowled 15 overs before he eventually got the wicket of Harry Brook.

“It’s not necessarily the way we’re used to going about putting together a first innings, but I think 250 for four is a pretty good score obviously would have liked some more runs. But the nature of the surface and the way the Indian attack bowled was pretty good throughout," Pope added.
