Former cricketer and current England assistant coach Marcus Trescothick stated that the heated on-field confrontations between the hosts and the visitors in the ongoing third Lord's Test have added an altogether new dimension and has kept the competitive edges in the oldest format of the game alive, where the focus of the world is only on T20I cricket and franchise leagues around the world.
It all started on the fag end of Day three of the Lord's Test when India skipper Shubman Gill was seen giving an earful to England opener Zak Crawley for deliberately wasting time. India carried the same flame on Day four as the bowlers led by Mohammed Siraj, Nitish Reddy, and Akash Deep were seen giving fiery send-offs to host batters.
“Having that competitive edge definitely helps the situation. It helps the atmosphere in the series. Cricket has gotten a bit more friendly over the past few years because the players are together in franchise tournaments all over the world. Sometimes it’s good to create something in the game,” he said on Sunday.

“Both teams are passionate about playing the game and it is understandable that at times, it gets to a boiling point. There will be things that happen between the two teams, but both teams know there’s a line you can’t cross, but it’s not really been troubled too much,” he added.
