Suryakumar Yadav has successfully undergone surgery for a sports hernia in Munich, Germany. He has now started his recovery. The India T20I captain shared an update on social media on Wednesday, saying the procedure went smoothly. In a photo posted from the hospital bed, he appeared to be in good spirits and said he was "already on the road to recovery."
The injury had been troubling Suryakumar for some time. He played through pain during the Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025), but decided to get it fixed during the break in India’s international schedule. With the Test team currently in England and no white-ball matches until August, it was seen as the right time to go ahead with the surgery.
Injuries have plagued Suryakumar Yadav lately. In 2024, he had the same sports hernia surgery. He also underwent an ankle surgery in 2023.

"On the Road to Recovery" - Suryakumar Yadav Shares Post-Surgery Update
Suryakumar had consulted a specialist in the United Kingdom after IPL 2025 for his sports hernia surgery. After featuring in the T20 Mumbai League, he underwent a procedure in Germany for the same.
"Life Update: Underwent surgery for a sports hernia in the lower right abdomen. Grateful to share that after a smooth surgery, I’m already on the road to recovery. Can’t wait to be back," Suryakumar wrote on Instagram.
As informed by Suryakumar himself, the operation went smoothly. He will now focus on recovery. He is expected to be match-fit in about 6-8 weeks.
The BCCI medical team will closely track his progress and conduct regular scans before giving him clearance to resume full training. If all goes according to plan, he could return to lead India in the T20I series against Bangladesh in late August.
Suryakumar Yadav’s Recent Performances
Before the surgery, Suryakumar was in excellent form during IPL 2025. He scored consistently for Mumbai Indians (MI) throughout the season. His performances helped the team qualify for the playoffs.
The 34-year-old finished the tournament with 717 runs, the best ever season for a Mumbai Indians batter. He became only the second Mumbai Indians player after Sachin Tendulkar to score more than 600 runs in a single season for the franchise. Only Sai Sudharsan, who scored 759 runs, made more in IPL 2025.
