IPL 2025: Delhi Capitals Rope In Afghanistan Batter Sediqullah Atal As Harry Brook's Replacement

Delhi Capitals Rope In Afghanistan Batter Sediqullah Atal As Harry Brook's Replacement

Delhi Capitals have finally announced Harry Brook's replacement for the remainder of the IPL 2025 season. Brook opted out of the tournament earlier, citing personal reasons.

In the process, he has now been banned from the IPL for the next two years. This is the second successive season when Brook opted himself out of an IPL season, having previously done it in 2024.

Eventually, Brook was named the new white-ball captain of England, with Jos Buttler stepping down from the post after England failed to qualify for the knockouts of the Champions Trophy. However, this does not lessen Brook's guilt of bowing out from the IPL after Delhi Capitals roped him in for 6.25 in the mega auction.

DC Sign Sediqullah Atal For Remainder Of IPL 2025

Finally, Delhi Capitals have announced a replacement for Harry Brook. DC has announced Afghanistan middle-order batter Sediqullah Atal as the replacement for the right-hander. The southpaw has represented Afghanistan across all formats. Atal will join DC for his base price of INR 1.25 crore, confirmed BCCI in a release.

The 23-year-old has a strike rate of 131 in 49 T20s. This will be his maiden IPL stint. He has previously played in the SA20 League for MI Cape Town. He has a best score of 76 against Pretoria Capitals, a part of the DC franchise in the SA20.

Speaking about Delhi Capitals, after a good start to the season, they have had a topsy-turvy run in the second half of the campaign. Currently, they are placed fifth in the IPL 2025 points table with 13 points. They need to win all their remaining games to make the playoffs. DC faces PBKS on Thursday with the campaign on the line for them. Kings will inch closer to the playoffs with a win. Meanwhile, a win for DC will propel them to the fourth position above MI on the table. DC's loss, however, will be a gain for KKR as they still remain in contention for the playoffs.
