Delhi Capitals (DC) scored 188 runs in 20 overs in the first innings of the 32nd match of the Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025) against Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on April 16.

Delhi Capitals started aggressively, racing to 33 runs for no wickets after the first two overs, capitalizing on the batting-friendly conditions. Openers Jake Fraser-McGurk (9 runs off 6 balls) and Abishek Porel (49 runs off 37 balls) attacked RR’s pace attack, with Jofra Archer and Tushar Deshpande struggling to contain the early onslaught. 23 runs came off the second over bowled by Deshpande.

However, RR’s bowlers staged a comeback in the next four overs, conceding just 13 runs while picking up two wickets, reducing DC to 46 runs for 2 wickets by the sixth over.

Archer dismissed Fraser-McGurk, while Karun Nair, who scored 89 runs in the last match, perished as a result of a run-out.

The scoring rate continued to fall. KL Rahul (38 runs off 32 balls) and Porel found an odd boundary here and there, but their partnership could never take off. Archer eventually got the better of Rahul in the 13th over as DC’s innings went south.

In the next over, Porel tried to take on Wanindu Hasaranga but departed back to the dressing room while doing so.

Axar Patel's (34 runs off 14 balls) brief cameo brought DC back in the game. DC’s skipper smashed Hasaranga for two fours and a six in the 16th over. He then replicated the same feat off Maheesh Theekshana but the Sri Lankan outsmarted him in the end.

While Axar had given the DC innings the impetus it needed, a final flourish was on the cards. 16 runs came off the penultimate over bowled by Archer, with Tristan Stubbs (34* runs off 18 balls) and Ashutosh Sharma (15* runs off 11 balls) finishing off well.

Sandeep Sharma bowled four wides and a no-ball in the final over. Stubbs hammered a four on the free hit and followed it up with a maximum. Theekshana dropped Stubbs' catch on the last ball of the innings to make matters worse.

Delhi Capitals eventually ended up at 188 runs for the fall of five wickets after 20 overs.
