Punjab Kings (PBKS) defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by four wickets wickets in the 49th match of the Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on April 30.
Chasing 191 runs, PBKS were off to a rollicking start with both Prabhsimran Singh (54 runs off 36 balls) and Priyansh Arya (23 runs off 15 balls) matching each other shot-by-shot, dealing in boundaries.
Punjab Kings raced off to 36 runs in four overs. Arya smacked two fours off Khaleel Ahmed in the fifth over but the latter bounced back, giving CSK a breakthrough. The pacer bowled a bouncer. Arya played a pull to only nick the ball to CSK’s wicket-keeper MS Dhoni.

Prabhsimran along with PBKS’ skipper Shreyas Iyer (72 runs off 41 balls) formed a 72-run stand for the second wicket. Prabhsimran did not let the required rate climb up. He smoked a four and a six off Noor Ahmad in the ninth over.
At the 10-over mark, Punjab Kings were at 88 runs for the loss of one wicket, still needing 103 runs to win.
Matheesha Pathirana, bowling the 11th over, was hammered for a maximum by Prabhsimran, who brought up his fifty in 31 deliveries with another boundary in the same over.
Shreyas tonked a biggie off Noor in the 13th over. However, the left-arm wrist-spinner responded well and dismissed Prabhsimran.
Iyer continued to bat CSK out of the game. Despite losing Nehal Wadhera (5 runs off 3 balls) in the 15th over, he did not press the panic button and found boundaries at regular intervals.
Iyer brought up his fifty in 32 deliveries. He clubbed Pathirana for two consecutive sixes in the 17th over to bring the match in PBKS’ corner.
Punjab needed 21 runs off 18 deliveries. They lost two more wickets in the form of Iyer and Shashank Singh (23 runs off 12 balls) but they had done their job.

PBKS required just two runs off the final over. Khaleel bowled a wide to tie the scores. He sent Suryansh Shedge (1 run off 3 balls) packing on the second delivery. A dot ball followed but a inside-edge coming off Marco Jansen's (4* runs off 2 balls) bat ran past Dhoni to go to the boundary as Punjab Kings competed the run-chase in 19.4 overs with four wickets remaining.
With this victory, PBKS moved to second place on the IPL 2025 points table, while CSK remained at the bottom.
CSK became the first team to be knocked out of the playoffs race in IPL 2025.
