Nicholas Pooran, who recently announced his retirement from international cricket, will lead the former 1-time champions, MI New York, in Major League Cricket 2025.
Nicholas Pooran Replaces Pollard to Lead MI New York
Nicholas Pooran has been with MI New York since the inaugural season of the MLC in 2023. He was a key part of the squad, and last season, his valuable contributions at the top, especially his 40-ball century in the 2023 season finals against the Seattle Orcas, helped MI New York win the maiden Major League Cricket title.

Kieron Pollard, who has led the team since the inaugural season, will now be replaced by his countryman Nicholas Pooran. Pooran has been associated with the MI franchise for a long time. In 2017, he was part of the Mumbai Indians in the IPL. Unfortunately, he didn’t get a game that season and was released the following year. He is now part of MI Cape Town in SA20 and MI Emirates in ILT20 in the UAE. Now, he’ll get the biggest opportunity to lead MI New York in MLC 2025.

Meanwhile, defending champions Washington Freedom have announced that Glenn Maxwell will lead their team this season. Maxwell, who recently announced his retirement from ODIs, will be playing the full season. With his focus now firmly on the T20 World Cup 2026, he replaces Steve Smith as captain this season. Smith is unavailable for the full tournament due to international commitments with Australia.
