West Indies will battle it out with Pakistan in the third & final T20I on Tuesday, August 12. The hosts managed to level the ODI series in the second ODI by winning the game via the Duckworth-Lewis Method. The third ODI promises to be a thrilling affair as the winner takes home the trophy. The visitors had a golden opportunity to seal the ODI series on Sunday, but they squandered the chance as their unpredictability came to the fore.
Pakistan's Achilles heel for the longest time has been its vulnerable batting order. They are yet to unlock a powerful finisher, which many top teams like India, Australia & South Africa have. West Indies head coach Darren Sammy had said that the three-match ODI series against Pakistan is important in the build-up to their chance of qualifying directly for the ODI World Cup 2027 event. While the hosts won't be overly pleased with the performance so far, they would be a bit happy about the way their bowling has shaped up. In the Australia T20 series, the bowlers were guilty of bowling too short. Against Pakistan, they have kept things tight, with Jayden Seales, Shamar Jospeh, & Gundakesh Motie bowling well.
Batting, though, remains a concern, as barring skipper Shai Hope and Roston Chase, the rest have failed to show consistency. The batters almost lost the second ODI as well; however, Chase managed to see off the lowish run chase. The rest of the host batters have to step up if they have to challenge top teams. Meanwhile, Pakistan would be deeply concerned by the form of veteran batter Babar Azam. It's been 71 innings across formats that he is yet to reach triple figures. He was out for a duck in the previous ODI.
Babar is the key batter in the line-up, as he plays the anchor role to perfection that allows the rest of the batters to attack from word go. However, he has failed to get into the groove. With the Asia Cup 2025 coming up, the senior Pakistan batter will be aiming to put on a match-winning score. However, the visitors would be pleased with a few bright performances from youngsters Hassan Nawaz and Saim Ayub.
