CSK vs PBKS: Shreyas Iyer Penalized ₹12 Lakh for Slow Over Rate

Shreyas Iyer vs CSK

Punjab Kings (PBKS) captain Shreyas Iyer was fined INR 12 lakhs for a slow over-rate offense during their match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK), which resulted in the team having only four fielders outside the 30-yard circle.

In Match 49 of the IPL 2025 at Chepauk, Shreyas Iyer won the toss and chose to bowl first. Chennai Super Kings had a strong middle-order performance after a rocky start, reaching 48 runs for 3 wickets in the powerplay. The duo of Dewald Brevis and Sam Curran put up a formidable fight against the Punjab Kings bowlers, leading to frustration for Shreyas Iyer. The slow over-rate caused the umpire to intervene, instructing Iyer to field with only four players outside the circle in the final two overs.

Frustrated Shreyas Iyer

This led to a heated discussion between Iyer and the umpire before he eventually set his field. However, Punjab Kings managed to take six wickets for just 12 runs, with Yuzvendra Chahal claiming a hat-trick in the 19th over, ultimately bundling out CSK for 190 runs in 19.2 overs.

Chennai Super Kings posted a total of 190 runs in the first innings. In response, Punjab Kings successfully chased down the target with three balls to spare, eliminating Chennai Super Kings from the playoff race in the IPL 2025.
