Former MI skipper Rohit Sharma did not have the best of starts in IPL 2025 from a batting perspective. Mumbai Indians lost their opening two games with Rohit not scoring. They won against KKR, but Rohit did not score.
In the first three games, Rohit has scored 0, 8, and 13 runs respectively. CSK bowler Khaleel Ahmed trapped him with an inswinger, which Rohit tried to flick but ended up getting caught at mid-wicket by Shivam Dube. Rohit's woes persisted into MI's second match of the season, where he could only manage eight runs off four balls. Against KKR, he was dismissed by a short ball from Andre Russell.
Rohit Sharma may not be the Mumbai Indians captain anymore, but the veteran has set his sights on taking the franchise to their sixth Indian Premier League title. After finally winning their first game of the season, MI is placed fifth on the IPL 2025 points table.

Speaking to Jio Hotstar recently, Rohit Sharma said that his focus is to win trophies for Mumbai Indians. He won five titles as captain with the franchise as captain. However, now he is playing as a player under Hardik Pandya's leadership.
“We understand that winning trophies is not easy. To win the IPL, you have to put in a lot of effort, and many factors need to come together. That’s the challenge of this tournament. You need to win 17 games—it’s almost half a year’s worth of T20 matches, but played in just two months. That is the challenge. There are many boxes to tick before you get to the trophy. Hopefully, we can have a great season with the exciting young players in our squad. My focus is not on just saying ‘we will win trophies,’ but on ensuring we do the right things. If we do that, success will follow,” Rohit told JioStar.
Rohit also spoke about how his role with the team has evolved over the last few years. He spoke about the transition in the league saying that his mindset has remained the same over the years which is all about winning. MI takes on LSG in their next game in Lucknow on April 4.
“Since I started, things have obviously changed. I used to bat in the middle order; now, I open the innings. I was the captain; now, I’m not. Some of my teammates from our championship-winning seasons are now in coaching roles. So, roles have changed, a lot has changed, but mindset remains the same. What I want to do for this team has not changed, and that is to go out there and win games and trophies" concluded Rohit Sharma.
